The Sunshine Challenge Team is well qualified to complete such a challenge, having completed many big outdoor events. Andy North and Dave Edwards are joined this year by Marc Thompson and Mike Senior.
What motivates us to complete such a huge challenge?... Daily news bulletins bring home the incredible bravery of our soldiers fighting the war in Afghanistan. These have made us reflect on our lives and how lucky we are to be able to choose. Having a real passion for running and cycling, we decided to use our hobby to help soldiers and their families who are suffering due to the effects of war & conflict. The Sunshine Challenge is going to raise £50,000 for the ABF The Soldiers' Charity & The Forces Children’s Trust.
Andy North Loves the outdoors, running has always been his natural passion with early heroes being Seb Coe, Steve Ovett and explorers such as Mallory & Sir Ranulph Fiennes. Having built a successful business career, he loves meeting people and admires anyone who stretches themselves to explore new barriers.
Dave Edwards Passionate about sport, in particular running. Dave has completed over 50 marathons and ultra distances including Coast to Coast and Dales Way. For some of these marathons he has raised money for national and local charities including the NSPCC, Lions International and Guide Dogs for the Blind
Marc Thompson Has always marvelled at the self development mentors and books. He has built a hugely successful business and has written his own book called Strength to Strength / How to make our life Unbreakable. Once a personal trainer and coach, he now joins the Sunshine Challenge team.
Mike Senior Has completed many cycling and running events in very fast times. Mike runs a successful Hotel in the Spa Town of Harrogate and always takes time out to explore the local Dales on his Bike.
Richard Harpham is our Kayak Coach and has taken me from zero to now kayaking over 20 miles and preparing us for the Channel Crossing, Richard will lead this key part of the Sunshine Challenge. Richard’s passion has always been Kayaking and is a keen supporter of the Marine Conservation Society, he continues to lead expeditions around Europe, Alaska and in 2011 has added the great American lakes. www.big5kayakchallenge.com
